Bilateral Year of Culture Austria-Ukraine 2019: key findings
The aim of the study
To get an overall assessment of the Bilateral Year of Culture Ukraine-Austria 2019 (hereinafter - the Year): the general perception of the Year by the target audience and its impressions.

8 respondents were interviewed by in-depth expert interviews; 107 respondents were interviewed using an online survey of a semi-formalised questionnaire.
Target audience
In general, the majority (94%) of participants liked the Year and gave positive evaluations (differences in evaluations by different target audiences).

The description of the Year provided by the respondents is dominated by positive characteristics: the quality of the organisation, diversity and interest in events, the opportunity for cooperation and dialogue.
Relevance
The majority of respondents (91%) in all audiences consider the events of the Year relevant. There are no negative assessments.
Among the events that co-organizers and representatives of the relevant authorities call important and significant are discussions and events on the presentation of culture.

How do the participants evaluate the Bilateral Year of Culture Ukraine-Austria 2019?
In most cases, participants in the events of the Year note its significant impact on building understanding and cooperation in the future.

At the same time, the impact of the Year is more significant for individual artists than for institutions, as artists have the opportunity to expand their audience and find potential partners for further collaboration.

What gave the participants the Year of Culture:
The results of the Year can be considered the recognition by the professional community that the community of Ukraine and Austria is much deeper than described in historical textbooks, there is a common context that is important to demonstrate.

According to all participants in the study, the cultural context should be the basis and incentive for the development of cooperation in various areas, including in the economic field.

The study was conducted by MZ Hub at the request of the Ukrainian Institute and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Kyiv.
