The main objective is to connect Ukrainian art curators with the French art scene by facilitating joint research, work with collections that may contain Ukrainian art, develop follow-up projects, etc. The programme focuses on networking and is tailored to each participant’s interests and inquiries.   

EXTER is a long-term programme of the Ukrainian Institute aimed at building sustainable partnerships with art residencies around the world. EXTER aims to build connections, facilitate exchange and collaborations between Ukrainian and international professionals, strengthening Ukraine’s presence in the global art community.

Ukrainian Institute, Institut français, Institut français d’Ukraine, Direction des affaires culturelles de la Ville de Paris, Cité internationale des arts announce the launch of the open call for EXTER x Cité internationale des arts, an international residency programme for 2025. 

Where: Cité Internationale des arts, Paris (France) 

When: October – December, 2025 (3-month residency, dates to be discussed with the selected resident) 

Who can apply: curators, art historians, researchers 

Residents will be jointly selected by teams of the project partners and two independent experts. The selected resident will be given time and space for creative work as well as institutional support in establishing contacts with local art communities. An individual programme will be tailored for the participant based on their practice and expectations stated in the application. 

What is provided: 
→  travel expences to and from Paris  

→ 1500€ per month, including approximately 650€ to pay for the live-in studio at Cité internationale des arts and a living allowance of approximately 850€.   

→  accommodation with children is welcomed in case of need (live-in studios at Cité internationale des arts can accommodate maximum two adults and a child under 7 years old) 

Requirements for applicants: 

→ Ukrainian citizenship; 

→ Minimum age 18; 

→ English language proficiency (B2 level or higher); 

→ Applicant must be ready to communicate and present their practice publicly during the residency; 

→ Relevant professional experience; 

→ Relevant higher education or other professional training certificates are a plus, but not obligatory.
