Ukrainian programme at the Turin International Book Fair
The Ukrainian Institute is organising events at the Turin International Book Fair for the first time. This is one of the key literary events in Italy. Last year, the fair was attended by over 220,000 people, more than 2,000 foreign guests, and 1,200 events took place. This year, from 15 to 19 May, the 37th edition of the book fair will take place.
With the support of the Ukrainian Institute, the programme will include a memorial evening dedicated to Victoria Amelina and a presentation of the Italian translation of her book ‘Looking at Women, Looking at War’. It will also feature presentations of Italian translations of Ukrainian literary classics: ‘The Forest Song’, translated by Yaryna Grusha, and ‘The Kaidash Family’ by Ivan Nechuy-Levytskyi, translated by Alessandro Achilli.

The Words of Victoria Amelina: Presentation of the Italian Translation of ‘Looking at Women, Looking at War’

On every page of the late Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina’s book, one can hear her voice and feel her absence. Documenting Russian war crimes became her mission, one she carried out by meeting other Ukrainian women who, like her, had witnessed the war. Then she was killed by a Russian missile. But Amelina’s resistance lives on.
The Italian translation of the book was published by Guanda.

Yaryna Grusha is a literary critic, translator and teacher who successfully promotes Ukrainian culture in Italy, a member of PEN Ukraine.
Alessandro Acilli is a translator of Ukrainian literature, literary critic, researcher of Ukrainian literature.
