The Commission was established in accordance with the UK–Ukraine 100-Year Partnership Agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Its main objective is to structure bilateral relations in the field of culture, creating a platform for cooperation, information exchange, and the organisation of cultural events.

The Ukrainian Institute and the British Council have been designated as the key institutions responsible for implementing this strand of cooperation. The Commission also includes representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in the United Kingdom (DCMS), as well as cultural organisations from both countries.

The programme of the meeting included working visits to British cultural institutions and a conference bringing together representatives of the Ukrainian and British cultural sectors. Participants discussed the needs of the sector, shared interests, and potential formats for partnership. Particular attention was given to sectoral cooperation, including in film and television, cultural heritage preservation, the development of platforms for presenting Ukrainian culture in the UK, and the digitalisation of cultural projects.

The participation of British public institutions and cultural organisations enabled a series of substantive working meetings and helped outline further directions for cooperation within the activities of the UK–Ukraine Cultural Commission.

The UK–Ukraine 100-Year Partnership Agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom was signed in January last year. The document provides for the development of cooperation in the cultural sphere, including partnerships between museums, theatres and galleries, exchanges of experience in film and television, support for Ukrainian identity abroad, the protection and restoration of cultural heritage, educational exchanges, and joint cultural events.
