Calendar of the competition

–> March 20, 2026 – launch of the competition and opening of applications (Stage I) 

–> May 2, 2026 – deadline for submission of applications for Stage I of the competition 

–> May 2–3, 2026 – technical review and period for completing the application package 

–> May 4–7, 2026 – jury selects the shortlist 

–> May 8, 2026 – announcement of the shortlist and launch of Stage II of the competition 

–> June 8, 2026 – deadline for submission of applications for Stage II of the competition 

–> June 9–14, 2026 – project presentations (Stage II of the competition) 

–> June 16, 2026 – announcement of the competition winner and the reserve project 

–> June 29, 2026 – signing of the contract with the competition winner 

Eligibility Requirements

The following entities are eligible to participate in the Competition:

  • legal entities of any form of ownership, registered in Ukraine;
  • legal entities registered abroad that implement projects directly related to the Ukrainian context outside Ukraine, as well as their branches and representative offices, which are registered and accredited in Ukraine in accordance with the procedure established by applicable Ukrainian legislation.

Stage I

Submission of applications – applicants must submit the application form and all required documents via the online form by May 2, 2026, 23:59 (Kyiv time) 

Required documents: 

  •  application form;
  • copy of the charter or other founding (registration) document;
  • document confirming the authority of the person signing the competition entry and their right to enter into contracts in the event the participant is selected as the winner of the Art Competition;
  • certificate confirming no direct or indirect contacts with representatives of a terrorist state  – the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, or the Islamic Republic of Iran; (using form provided in Annex 3 of the Regulations and can be downloaded here;
  • motivation letter (up to 2,500 characters);
  • overall exhibition concept (up to 2,500 characters);
  • preliminary visualisation of the exhibition and/or other supporting visual materials;
  • preliminary project expense budget (using the template provided in Annex 2 of the Regulations and can be downloaded here).

Application form

Stage II

Stage II begins on May 8, 2026. 
The submission deadline is June 8, 2026, 23:59 (Kyiv time). 

Projects admitted to Stage II must submit an extended package of documents via the online form within 30 days. For detailed information on Stage II, please refer to the Competition Regulations. 

The results will be announced no later than June 16, 2026, on the website and social media of the Ukrainian Institute. 

The jury

Tetyana is an art manager, curator, and researcher with 20 years of experience in the cultural sector. She has worked in various cultural institutions and projects in the fields of visual art, film, music, and publishing. Since 2018, she has served as Creative Director of the Ukrainian Institute, a state institution of cultural diplomacy. She coordinates the artistic and cross-sectoral programmes and works on major bilateral cooperation initiatives, including the UK–Ukraine Season of Culture 2022–2023 and the Ukrainian Season in France “Voyage to Ukraine” 2025–2026. In 2025, she was appointed Commissioner of the Ukrainian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

At the British Council, Sevra Davis works to create collaborative and international exchange opportunities for the global design sector. She trained in architecture and has worked as an architect, urban designer and leading design advocate. She speaks and writes frequently about the role of design and architecture in an increasingly complex world with a particular focus on design for the circular economy.

Martin Duplantier co-curated the French Pavilion of the 2025 Venice Biennale. With offices in France and Ukraine, he is also part of Kharkiv School of Architecture’s team.

Сo-founder of the Pavilion of Culture. In 2023 Oleksii was a co-curator of the Ukrainian Pavilion at the Biennale Architettura in Venice.

Bogdana Kosmina explores the intersections of culture, heritage, and technology. At 59th Venice Biennale represented the spacial installation “Piazza Ucrania”. At 18th Architectural Venice Biennale represented the spacial installation “March On”. In 2025 represented the Ukrainian Pavilion, as architect, curator, and artist . At the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia , presenting a work “Soft Joy” at Palazzo Contarini Polignac in frame of PinchukArtCentre exhibition.

Funding

In 2026, the Ukrainian Institute will allocate up to UAH 1,000,000 from the state budget to support preliminary development, initial team fees, research, a preparatory trip to Venice, and the production of materials for the Pavilion in Ukraine.

About La Biennale di Venezia

The International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia takes place every two years in Venice. Within the framework of the exhibition, participating countries present their national pavilions and architectural visions that respond to contemporary social, technological, and cultural challenges. 

The 20th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia will run from May 8 to November 21, 2027. The exhibition is curated by Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu – architects and educators, founders of the School of Architecture at the China Academy of Art.
