Ukraine on Screen: Social Impact of Cinema – Pitching & Panel Discussion at the European Film Market 

On February 14, as part of the European Film Market (EFM) – one of the key gathering points for the global film and media industry – a series of events will highlight the creativity and resilience of the Ukrainian audiovisual sector. The programme will showcase the industry’s ability to operate and adapt in wartime while remaining active on the international stage.

Additionally, the event aims to foster new international partnerships and strengthen global cooperation.

The event is organized in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute, the Ukrainian Institute’s Representation in Germany, the Ukrainian Film Festival in Berlin, and Media Resources Management, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany.

The “Ukraine on Screen: Social Impact of Cinema” programme will begin at 17:30 with an overview of Ukraine’s film industry and a pitching session titled “Stories That Matter”. This platform will introduce new voices in Ukrainian cinema. The selected projects explore themes of cultural identity, historical responsibility, the impact of political decisions in times of crisis, the effects of war on people and nature, and other pressing societal issues.

During the session, Ukrainian filmmakers will present their projects to key international industry players, including fund representatives, festival selection committee members, potential producers, and sales agents.

The lineup features Ukrainian documentary and fiction feature films with international distribution and festival potential that are currently in development or production:

The pitching session will be moderated by Maria Zoryk, Communications Manager of the Representative Office of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany and the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin.

At 18:40, a panel discussion titled “The Power of Cinema: Social Impact Potential” will bring together leading Ukrainian and international experts.

Experts will discuss how cinema can respond to urgent social challenges, particularly in times of war; the role of storytelling in difficult periods; the power of film to raise awareness, inspire action, and foster cross-border solidarity; the significance of promotional and social impact campaigns; and opportunities for co-production and international collaboration.
