Today, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar studies need strengthening in their cooperation with each other and with Ukraine. Furthermore, many centers are still driven by the Soviet and post-Soviet narratives. In most of foreign universities, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar studies remain in the shadow of russian studies. As a result, Ukraine often remains an object of study rather than the primary source of knowledge.

For these reasons, the Ukrainian Institute, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, announces the Ukrainian Studies Conference “Ukraine in the World”. The event will take place for the first time on 8-10th July, 2026, hosted by the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.

Goals and Vision

The “Ukraine in the World” conference aims to create a major international platform in Ukraine that unites global academia around a contemporary vision of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar studies. 

Our aim is not only to create a space to present the current state of research, but also strengthen Ukraine’s role as an active subject of international academic dialogue and provide momentum for future partnerships, scientific, educational, and cultural projects.

Theme and Program Highlights 

This year’s conference theme is “Emerging Ukrainian Studies”, built on networking, communication, and an awareness of the linguistic and cultural diversity of modern Ukraine.

The conference program will feature:

• Keynote speeches by invited scholars, cultural influencers, and opinion leaders.
• Thematic scientific panels, presentations of academic centers, plenary sessions.
• Showcases of academic publications and accompanying cultural events.

The organizers of the conference are the Ukrainian Institute, Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Catholic University, in cooperation with the Global Coalition for Ukrainian Studies and with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
