Ukraine at The Indonesian Ballet Gala 2025
An outstanding duo represented Ukraine on the stage of this international gala concert:
- Andrii Havryliuk – graduate of the Kyiv Choreographic College, guest principal dancer with Kyiv City Ballet, principal dancer of the National Theater of Belgrade (Serbia), and laureate of international competitions.
- Jemima Waya – Indonesian ballerina, alumna of the Gelsey Kirkland Academy (New York), dancer with Chongqing Ballet (China) from 2022 to 2024, and current Thuringer Staatsballettt.
They performed an excerpt from the ballet ‘Forest Song’ by Mykhailo Skorulskyi, based on the poetic drama by Lesia Ukrainka. Despite the heavy rain, the hall was full — all tickets were sold out, and almost 2,000 spectators attended the event.
‘This dance had never been performed on an Indonesian stage before. It was incredibly moving and fascinating to see Ukrainian ballet come to life through the performance of Ukrainian and Indonesian artists. It was truly a unique and unforgettable experience’, — Mariska Febriyani (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mariska-febriyani-777145167/), founder of Ballet.id.
‘It was a great honour for me to represent Ukraine and Ukrainian classical ballet at such a major event in Indonesia. The duet with an Indonesian ballerina was especially meaningful — it was a true cultural collaboration that demonstrated the power of art to unite countries,’
— Andrii Havryliuk
This marked the first-ever performance of a piece from Ukrainian classical ballet in Indonesia. Just three days of rehearsal were enough to bring true stage magic to life.
