Ukrainian Institute Launches Europe-wide Campaign to Amplify Gratitude for Foreign Support.

The Smallest Support

As Ukraine marks its Independence Day, the Ukrainian Institute is launching a groundbreaking campaign to highlight the immense gratitude of the Ukrainian people for the unwavering support from European nations and citizens.

“The Smallest Support” campaign will spread the messages of gratitude from Ukrainians throughout Europe.

While Russian war against Ukraine may slowly fall out of media highlights, it rages on. Europe shows unwavering support for Ukraine. Ukrainians notice even what may seem the smallest expression of support: kind words, supportive posts, or a UA flag displayed in a window. The Ukrainian Institute made these meaningful actions visible,” Kseniia Kalyna, Head of Communications, Ukrainian Institute.

From the biggest airport digital screens to unique miniature newspapers, the campaign is sharing the quotes from the social media, where Ukrainians thank people for their supportive content. One supportive post from a citizen of Germany, Italy, or Spain dozens of “thank you” comments from Ukraine.

Key campaign elements include:

  • Digital media presence in the airports of Europe: 20 of European airports, among them London and Kopenhagen, Munich and Dusseldorf, Rome and Milano, Prague, Riga, Tallinn and many more, will display powerful messages of solidarity from European supporters and heartfelt gratitude from Ukrainians on the digital screens.
  • Miniature Newspapers: these pocket-sized publications highlight the impact of individual actions on Ukrainian lives. Miniature Newspapers, equating users’ posts to newspaper front pages, emphasizing that even what may seem small deed is a significant support for Ukraine. The mini newspapers will be distributed through the busiest cafés and local businesses.
  • The gratitude comments seen in the Miniature Newspapers belong to ordinary Ukrainians who posted them in response to news about foreign aid. Since foreigners might not see the volume of appreciation in Ukrainian media comments, we made it visible.
  • Posters at the mass rallies: on August 24, simultaneous rallies will feature a ten-meter ribbon adorned with supportive tweets, symbolizing the collective strength of the Ukrainian-European bond.
  • Digital Flash Mobs: Encouraging Ukrainians to share personal stories of gratitude for the support they received from Europe, the campaign aims to create a powerful wave of appreciation.

The campaign will be supported by an exhibition in the Madrid Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport. Here a bright story about a small expression of support turned into a big help will be displayed.

This powerful story of Ukrainian gratitude that spread throughout Europe in a huge wave of posts, likes, visuals and rallies will spotlight the importance of small efforts that can cause a huge difference. And also – a gratefulness of Ukrainians who are thankful for even the smallest support.

Campaign organiser: Ukrainian Institute, a public institution for cultural diplomacy established to improve the understanding and perception of Ukraine and Ukrainians around the world.
