EXTRA SOUND programme continues: competition for participation in the Waves Vienna showcase

Focus Countries are Ukraine and United Kingdom

The Ukrainian Institute and Music Export Ukraine announce a competition for Ukrainian performers to participate in the international music showcase festival Waves Vienna Festival. This year the festival will take place online on September 10-12. Ukraine will become a focus country.

The long-term programme of presenting Ukrainian musicians and bands at EXTRA SOUND international festivals, which the Ukrainian Institute announced this year, like most international music events, has changed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. As part of this programme, the international festival the Great Escape Festival (Great Britain) was canceled, and the professional Polish showcase Enea Spring Break 2020 was postponed to autumn. The Waves Vienna Festival has evolved into an online event.

The festival programme, which traditionally consists of speeches, presentations and conferences, will take place on 7 separate channels on the festival website. Access to presentations and conferences will be limited, but recordings of concerts will be open to the general public on the festival website. The musicians will not be able to go to Vienna and perform live, but will have a professional video of the live performance especially for the festival, which the artists will be able to use for promotion.

At the Waves Conference 2020, which brings together industry agents under the slogan "East meets West" to discuss pressing issues and challenges, the focus countries will be the United Kingdom and Ukraine. Why the festival organisers chose Ukraine, says the director of the Waves Vienna festival Thomas Heer: "The booker team of our festival has been monitoring the dynamics of the Ukrainian music market and the music scene for many years, where many great new musicians appear. Over the past few years, we have invited Ukrainian musicians, and last years' experience of working with the Ukrainian Institute and Music Export Ukraine became a hit of the showcase. We are really happy to include Ukraine, as well as the United Kingdom, in the focus countries this year, and we hope for fruitful cooperation in the future. "

Focus on Ukraine means that 6 Ukrainian performers will be able to shine on the international professional platform Waves Vienna at once. Participants will be selected through a competition that will last until July 1st, and the winners of the competition will be chosen by the festival organizers.

"In recent years, we continue to introduce the Ukrainian music industry to the format of showcase festivals as one of the most effective business tools for career development. This year at Waves Vienna we have a unique chance to be part of the online format. A showcase of six artists, participation in a conference, networking with Ukrainian delegates - all this becomes part of one plan. Our goal is to continue to talk about Ukraine abroad and to create new opportunities for international cooperation in the field of music, "says Daria Tarkovska, co-founder of Music Export Ukraine.

To participate in the competition, fill out the form (the signed form must be downloaded to the appropriate item in the questionnaire) and the online questionnaire. Deadline for applications: July 1st, 2020.
