A Series of Translation Workshops in
Germany and France

The Ukrainian Institute launched a series of translation workshops aimed at strengthening Ukrainian translators and promoting the emergence of new translations of Ukrainian literature abroad.

The First Translation Workshop of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany

About the workshop

Starting in December 2023, the first translation workshop of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany took place.

The curator of the first edition of the translation workshop was Claudia Dathe, a professional translator of Ukrainian literature and the first laureate of the Drahoman Prize. The co-organizers were Nellia Vakhovska and Roksoliana Sviato, translators from German to Ukrainian and literary scholars.

Eight translators participated in the workshop: Annegret Becker, Ira Teiwes, Lukas Jura, Jutta Lindekugel, Kati Brunner, Maria Weißenböck, Harald Fleischmann, and Jakob Wunderwald.

Another translation seminar is planned. The Ukrainian Institute intends to continue working with German translators and present new and relevant names in contemporary Ukrainian literature to German publishers.

About the catalogue "New Voices. Literature from Ukraine"

The result of the first translation workshop was the catalogue New Voices. Literature from Ukraine, aimed at German-speaking publishers, editors, literary scholars, and other professionals in the book industry. The catalogue serves as a sort of anthology, featuring eight excerpts from eight books by contemporary Ukrainian writers. The selection includes both fiction and non-fiction.

In addition, the catalogue presents eight reviews of the respective books and eight translator portfolios of the translators who participated in the creation of this catalogue.
